“SINCE I WILL BE GRADUATING IN DECEMBER, MANY OF THE INDIVIDUALS THAT I HAVE MET HAVE OFFERED THEIR HELP IN MY JOB SEARCH AND
HAVE ASKED THAT I CONTACT THEM CLOSER TO GRADUATION SINCE THEY HIRE MORE “JUST IN TIME” BASED ON OPENINGS.”

WHERE WAS YOUR INTERNSHIP FOR THE SUMMER?
My marketing internship for last summer was with the Madison Mallards, a wood bat team comprised of baseball players from universities across the nation including Notre Dame, Stanford, UNC, UW Whitewater, Jacksonville, etc.
HOW DID YOU FIND THE INTERNSHIP?
I found my internship through a website called teamworkonline that focuses on the athletic industry.
DID YOU NETWORK WITH OTHER COMPANIES IN THE AREA? DID YOU HAVE INFORMATIONAL INTERVIEWS EARLY IN YOUR COLLEGE CAREER TO START MAKING CONNECTIONS IN THIS AREA?
Yes! I am on TeamworkOnline’s email list so that they send me emails regarding job postings, internship opportunities, volunteer opportunities, and networking events. Through TeamworkOnline I have volunteered at the NCAA Final Four in Indianapolis, attended the inaugural sports forum at Northwestern, and attended the Indiana Pacers Networking Event. Through these networking events I have obtained a part-time job for this coming fall with the Chicago Bears (so excited!) and have gained many contacts within the Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever.
DO YOU HAVE ANY HELPFUL HINTS TO SHARE WITH OTHER STUDENTS?
Before even stepping foot on campus I had secured a Student Manager position on the volleyball team. My first summer at IU, I was offered a marketing internship with the Athletic Department. I will take my business knowledge to benefit an athletic team or company.Use your Kelley degree to pursue the industry that you want to have a positive, Kelley-effect on! The athletic industry is a business too…a business degree is best if you want to be promoted.
