Student Newsletter – INTERVIEW SEASON IS HERE

October 12, 2021

Don’t miss the last Kelley Virtual Employer Networking Night (ENN) for fall semester TONIGHT, Oct. 12! It’s a great opportunity to connect with 30+ participating employers at one time.

Read on for important ENN reminders, tips to ace that interview, and more!

IMPORTANT ENN REMINDERS:

  • Participation is a 2-step process: (1) Register on Handshake for each event AND (2) Sign up for group sessions and 1:1 sessions with your firms of interest before they fill up. Solely registering does NOT get you in front of employers!
  • To sign up for Group or 1:1 sessions, your profile privacy must be set to “Community”.
  • You can check back 48 hours prior to the event for additional 1:1 sessions that have opened.
  • Virtual does not mean optional! Several employers have shared that some students who have scheduled time with them have been no-shows. Ghosting an employer does not bode well for future employment opportunities. If you schedule a time to meet with an employer, SHOW UP and log in on time! The employers know who is on their schedule and will document and remember a no show.
  • Technical difficulty or day-of-event questions? We will be available by clicking “Join Virtual Help Room” in Handshake during the event.

NEED HELP PREPARING FOR AN UPCOMING INTERVIEW?

Interviewing for an internship or full-time job is stressful. Our UCS coaches are available and want to help reduce the stress! We can answer questions you have about interviews, discuss tips for preparing, and if you need some practice for the real thing, we are happy to do a mock interview with you. Set up a time for a coaching appointment on Handshake.

In the meantime, look at a few of these articles to help you ace your interview.

BEING READY FOR IN-PERSON RECRUITING INTERACTIONS

Several in-person interviews have been taking place at the Prebys Center. The UCS team has communicated to recruiters that wearing a mask is required while indoors on campus. If you encounter a scenario where an employer you are interviewing with is not wearing a mask, it is ok to remind them about IU’s mask mandate while in any university building.

With more and more in-person interactions, it is also a good reminder to be prepared with a plan when someone extends their hand for a handshake. Be prepared with an alternative greeting!
