MORE TIPS ON USING HANDSHAKE

As an IU Kelley School student, Handshake is your best online platform to use to identify and apply for available internship and full-time opportunities. Employers who post opportunities on Handshake are looking primarily for entry-level talent and are familiar with campus and university timelines. These companies are typically hiring college students for opportunities that start after college students graduate and/or finish up the school year. Given the thousands of opportunities on Handshake, check out these resources articles below for tips on using the system.

DIVERSITY IN BUSINESS NATIONAL VIRTUAL CAREER FAIR

This virtual career fair, on Tuesday, Nov. 9, focuses on the opportunity for employers and students of diverse backgrounds to network and learn about each other. We encourage you to ask questions about company culture and how the respective companies are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Hear about companies’ diverse roles and programs as well as their summer internships, full-time roles post-graduation, or immediate hire roles. Click here for more information and to register to participate.

FOLLOWING UP AFTER GETTING A NO

It is disappointing to hear a “no” from a company we have interviewed with, especially for a job position we really wanted. As disappointing as it might be, it can be a good idea to send a brief follow up note to the employer. Crafting a well-written response can demonstrate your continued professionalism and potentially lead to future opportunities with the company. For a sample response and tips for how to follow up graciously, click here.

SHARE YOUR GRATITUDE

As we enter into this season of giving thanks, the UCS invites you to write a brief 1-2 line shout-out to someone here at Kelley – a fellow student, staff member or faculty – who may have helped or supported you with something or who you are grateful for their presence in your life. Fill out the following survey to share your gratitude – Share Your GRATITUDE survey – and the UCS will publish these Expressions of Gratitude in the remainder of the UCS newsletters this month.
