Student Newsletter – SPRING RECRUITING CONTINUES

February 8, 2022

Two (2) more Employer Networking Nights (ENNs) are scheduled for this semester – –

Participating companies are listed and registration is open on Handshake. Be sure to check Handshake regularly for possible event changes as pandemic conditions continue to evolve.

In order to participate and meet with employers during the virtual ENN, you need to:

  1. Update your profile and make it visible to companies by selecting the “Community” or “Employers” setting.
  2. Register for the event.
  3. Sign-up for group sessions or one-on-one slots with your companies of interest. (If you do not complete this step, you will not be able to meet virtually with any employers)

BEYOND THE FIRST NETWORKING INTERACTION

You have heard a lot of talk about the importance of networking, especially as the spring recruiting season continues. As you interact with people at recruiting events, in classes, and meet new people through others, a common question that comes up is how do you continue to build the relationship and keep the connection going beyond that first interaction? Read “9 Tips to Turn Networking Contacts Into Meaningful Relationships” for some great suggestions.

KELLEY 2 CAREERS (K2C) WORKSHOP: VIRTUAL RECRUITING EVENT PREP

Want to know how to bring your best self to the virtual (and hybrid) recruiting space? Come to this workshop this Friday, Feb. 11 from 12-1pm and learn how to introduce yourself, pick up tips for how to make a positive impression in a short amount of time, and know what to expect during virtual/hybrid recruiting events.

 VIRTUAL ≠ OPTIONAL

I’m not sure why, but it feels easier to no show for a virtual event. Maybe it’s because, while we have good intentions to attend, we get busy or forgot and know we usually have access to the recorded version. However, when it comes to recruiting events and the opportunity to connect live with employers, there are no options for a recorded version.  For a number of these events the UCS organizes, it includes professionals taking time out of their day to connect with you about opportunities.  If you’ve selected a time slot or signed up to attend an event, your attendance or NON-attendance is noticed.  Please be professional and attend events you’ve signed up for.  Recruiters do keep track of no shows so if you sign up, show up!
