WE CAN HELP

There is a lot going on this recruiting season and it can be overwhelming. Don’t know where to start? Questions about career planning and your search?

Come see a UCS coach. We are available during daily drop-in hours Monday-Friday from 10am-3pm and by appointment in Handshake. If you are interested in practicing your interview skills, we also have peer coach mock interview hours on Thursdays from 3-5pm.

NAVIGATING IN-PERSON RECRUITING EVENTS

There are several in-person recruiting events this week. Here are some tips to help you make the most of these opportunities:

  1. Plan: Prioritize which companies you want to meet by making a list. (The first in-person ENN this semester was well-attended so you may have to wait to speak with company representatives.)
  2. Research: Conduct some basic research on the company. Know what the company does, their products and/or services and what opportunities they are recruiting for.
  3. Prepare:
    1. Prepare your introduction – your name, year in school, major(s), type of opportunity you are seeking is sufficient. Then, ask the employer a question to engage them in conversation.
    2. Outline some talking points – these points should be some key highlights of your experiences and skills and how they are relevant to the position you are targeting.
  4. Ask: Ask questions to learn more about the person you are talking to, the company and the opportunities beyond what you can read about in a job description or on the company website. Engage, learn & be curious!

DRESS FOR SUCCESS

Some of you may have seen this image of colleagues who wore their attire during pandemic Zoom meetings after returning to the office.

Casual clothing has become the wardrobe of choice for many but what is recommended attire during the recruiting season when you are talking to employers and trying to land that internship or full-time job?

Business casual is the recommended dress for the upcoming ENN’s and company information sessions.

Business professional is recommended for career fairs and interviews.
