Drug Delivery & Biomaterials Internship Overview

The mission of the Drug Delivery Science group is to establish innovative and effective solutions for the delivery of AbbVie’s therapeutic molecules to patients. The Drug Delivery & Biomaterials Intern will work as a key part of a talented, multidisciplinary, and cross-functional team to build cutting-edge drug delivery systems for sustained delivery and advance product candidates through early R&D.
Key responsibilities
- Under the supervision of a mentor, evaluate process conditions for the fabrication of hydrogels for drug delivery systems.
- Learn and perform characterization of polymers and hydrogels (e.g. mechanical and physical properties.)
- Learn and evaluate the feasibility of in-vitro release of surrogate protein using biomaterials and hydrogel systems.
- Maintain timely and accurate laboratory records.
Minimum Qualifications
· Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or other related field.
· Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the internship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Expected graduation date between December 2024 – July 2025.
- Experience in fabrication and characterization of biomaterials for drug delivery systems.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- A desire and capacity to learn, drive continuous improvement, and operate in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

• The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
• The salary range is: (minimum: $68,182.40 to maximum: $101,420.80)
